Interior decoration
Interior decoration is the tactile language of space. It works on the skin of rooms, on the surfaces that receive light and give back matter. It is a discipline of proximity, where the gesture of the hand that lays, places and pairs shapes the perceptual character of the interior and reveals its most intimate identity.
Method
For the studio, decoration is design substance. Every surface carries the same weight as a wall or a proportion. The decorative project is integrated thinking, present from the earliest layout hypotheses. We treat material as an expressive vocabulary. The grain of a plaster, the depth of a lacquer, the transparency of a glaze are tactile choices that define the way a space is perceived, touched, inhabited.
Interior decoration phases
1. Material survey
mapping of surfaces, wall coverings, flooring and finishes present in the rooms, with an assessment of the condition of the materials, their compatibility with new treatments, and their behaviour under natural and artificial light.
2. Material and finish research
sourcing of textiles, wallpapers, woods, stones, resins and decorative paints through a network of manufacturers, craft workshops and specialist suppliers. Visits to showrooms, requests for dedicated samples, and the development of bespoke finishes with specialist craftspeople.
3. Moodboard and sampling
physical assembly of material samples, colour references and textures into material boards, with verification of pairings, reflections and material reactions under the actual conditions of the space, in relation to light, dimensions and adjacent surfaces.
4. Detailed material specification
translation of the moodboard into an operational document including technical specifications for each material, definitive combinations for each room, quantities, product sheets and installation guidelines.
5. Craftsmen and supply coordination
management of relationships with upholsterers, installers, decorative painters and joinery workshops. Coordination of production timings, deliveries and sequencing of works.
6. Installation and fitting
direct supervision of the installation of wall coverings, flooring, panelling, wallpapers and drapery. Verification of conformity with the approved samples, with any necessary touch-ups or targeted corrections.
Applications
Textiles and upholstery
selection and fitting of fabrics for upholstered furniture, headboards, seating and wall coverings, with work carried out by specialist upholsterers to project specifications.
Wallpaper and wallcovering
application of wallpapers, textile coverings, natural fibres and decorative wall surfaces, with attention to substrate preparation and the precision of joins.
Boiserie and panelling
design and installation of timber, lacquered or composite panelling, developed to drawing and produced by specialist joinery workshops.
Bespoke curtains and drapery
development of complete curtain systems including fabric selection, operating mechanisms, making-up and installation, entrusted to specialist craftspeople.
Rugs
selection, sizing and, where required, bespoke development of knotted, woven or tufted rugs, in relation to the dimensions of the room, the existing materials and the arrangement of furnishings.
Decorative finishes
application of resins, plasters, microcement and surface treatments to walls and surfaces, involving manual processes that require specific technical expertise.
Flooring
selection and laying of floors in wood, natural stone, encaustic tiles, porcelain stoneware and resin, coordinating subfloor preparation with the aesthetic and performance requirements of the project.
Decorative painting
multi-layered paint finishes, glazes, textural and chromatic effects, and lime-based treatments, executed by specialist decorative painters to samples approved during the design phase.
Reinstatement of existing elements
recovery and recalibration of existing boiserie, flooring, internal joinery and decorative features, integrated into the new material scheme of the space through interventions of restoration, adaptation and formal continuity.
Ceilings, screens and transition surfaces
decorative definition of ceilings, bulkheads, niches, screens and transition surfaces, treated as active elements in the perceptual construction of the interior and in the continuity between materials, light and proportion.
Vision
The quality of an interior is felt by the hand before the eye. The materials we select age with grace, change through use and acquire over time a depth that industrial products cannot offer. Interior decoration is the layer of the project where the sensory becomes tangible, where every surface speaks of the skill of the craftsperson who worked it and the care of the mind that conceived it.
