Collectible design
Limited editions and unique pieces conceived as expressive research, outside the constraints of industrial production. Form, material and craftsmanship as a field of inquiry.
Method
In collectible design there is no brief. There is a formal or material hypothesis to test, and the freedom to do so with techniques and timescales that serial production would not allow. The limited run is a consequence of the process.
Collectible design phases
1. Brief, positioning and research
definition of the theme, expressive territory and objectives of the collection. Analysis of formal references, available artisanal techniques and materials compatible with the intended edition size. Verification, for collections intended for galleries or publishers, of the platform’s positioning, the profile of the reference collectors and the exhibition context.
2. Formal concept
definition of the language of the series, the material palette and the relationship between the individual pieces through sketches and models. Definition of production techniques, finishes and coherence across the different typologies within the collection.
3. Development and prototyping
production of full-scale prototypes at the workshops responsible for manufacturing. Verification of proportions, tactile quality, material performance and coherence with the concept. Correction and refinement of each piece until the approved version is defined.
4. Artisanal production
production of the numbered series or unique piece through manual processes entrusted to specialist craftspeople. Control of each specimen through fabrication, finishing and qualitative verification.
5. Documentation and certification
accompaniment of each specimen with a certificate of authenticity, progressive numbering and a technical sheet of materials and processes. Integration, where required, of dedicated packaging and photographic material for the presentation of the collection.
Scope of work
Limited editions for galleries
numbered series developed in collaboration with design galleries and editorial platforms, with defined edition sizes and distribution through contemporary collecting channels.
Unique pieces
single non-reproducible specimens made with materials or processes that, by their nature, exclude serial production.
Capsule collections
small collections built around a theme, a material or a specific technique, with a defined number of typologies and a controlled edition size for each.
Self-production
collections developed, produced and distributed directly by the studio, from conception to sale.
Collaborations with craftspeople
projects developed with specialist artisan makers, where the available technique directly shapes the design of the piece.
Pieces for exhibitions and installations
elements conceived for exhibitions, fairs and temporary installations, in response to a curatorial theme or a specific exhibition space.
Reissues and author's variants
reworking of existing pieces in new materials, finishes or proportions, with a dedicated edition and independent numbering from the original series.
Vision
Some of our collectible pieces have gone on to become starting points for subsequent industrial projects. The research we conduct outside commissions feeds the work within them, even if we do not know it at the time of making.
