Les Dedans devotes ten pages of its first volume, published in 2023, to the industrial loft in London. The text is by Andreea Dicianu, and the feature is titled Contemporan atemporal, ‘contemporary and timeless’.

Les Dedans feature, London industrial loft with a vast concrete hall and a curved black sofa

Les Dedans is an independent Romanian publication devoted to interiors, design, architecture and art. Its printed volumes appear twice a year and are available through the Cărturești bookshops, among other outlets. In the first volume, published in 2023, the feature on the industrial loft opens on pages 2 and 3 with a photograph of the living room. In the background, Ingo Maurer’s Birdie’s Nest is mounted on the dining room wall.

Ingo Maurer designed Birdie’s Nest in 2005, returning to an idea from the early 1990s, the bare light bulb with two small, handmade goose-feather wings. Ten winged bulbs are mounted on individually adjustable arms, so the lamp takes its final form only when installed. It is made by hand in Ingo Maurer’s Munich workshops.

In the living room, de Sede’s DS-1088 in black full-grain leather accompanies the DS-600 sofa. Created by the company’s in-house design team, it was introduced in 1975 and reissued at imm cologne in 2019. Cubic modules can be arranged in any combination. Elongated cushions rest on them without fixings and can be moved freely.

A full-page photograph of the mezzanine shows Togo, introduced by Michel Ducaroy with Ligne Roset in 1973. With neither frame nor legs, the seat is made entirely of foam. The foam layers vary in density, softer at the seat and firmer towards the base. A quilted cover, stitched into pleats, encloses them and defines the profile. Ducaroy likened it to a tube of toothpaste folded back on itself and sealed at both ends.

Behind the bathroom basin, the door in acid-etched reeded glass is Glas Italia’s Aladin Plain Mono, from Piero Lissoni’s collection of glass doors and partitions. In the Mono version, the glass is fitted to one side of the aluminium frame, creating a flush surface on that face and a recessed pane on the other. Glas Italia makes it to measure at its factory in Macherio, in Brianza.
